The role of genetics in fertility

Today, we want to talk about the role of genetics in fertility. Many people are unaware of the fact that genetics can play a significant role in a couple's ability to conceive.

One genetic factor that can impact fertility is chromosomal abnormalities. Chromosomes are the structures in our cells that contain our DNA, and they are responsible for determining many of our physical characteristics, such as our height, eye color, and hair color. However, chromosomal abnormalities can also occur, which can cause problems with fertility.

One type of chromosomal abnormality that can impact fertility is aneuploidy, which is when a person has too many or too few chromosomes. This can occur in the egg, the sperm, or both, and it can make it difficult or impossible for a couple to conceive.

Fortunately, there are ways to test for chromosomal abnormalities and determine if they are causing fertility issues. Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is a process in which embryos created through in vitro fertilization (IVF) are tested for chromosomal abnormalities before they are transferred to the uterus. This allows couples to choose only healthy embryos for transfer, which can increase their chances of conceiving.
