How does In Vitro Fertilization Work?

In Vitro fertilization is a medical procedure in which the natural process of reproduction is mimicked by using modern medical equipment and techniques. During this process, the sperm and egg are fertilized into an embryo outside of the body which is then either transferred to the woman's uterus or frozen for a later attempt.

How long does the procedure take?

IVF treatment requires frequent visits to the doctor before and after the treatment. Although the time taken for the procedure may differ from person to person depending on multiple factors, the entire procedure usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks.

Does IVF lead to Twins and Multiple Births?

A lot of people believe that there is a high risk of multiple pregnancy by conceiving through the procedure of IVF which is not quite true. There is a slight chance of multiple births when multiple embryos are put back into the woman’s womb in order to increase the probability of pregnancy but the procedure of IVF in itself does not necessarily lead to multiple pregnancy.

Which one is more effective fresh or frozen embryo transfers (FET)?

Frozen and fresh embryo transfers alike start with ovulation induction and tracking. While the uterus is prepared, the woman will go through an egg retrieval in which the embryologist will fertilize her eggs together with her associate's or donor's sperm.

As soon as the eggs and sperm have been retrieved and fertilized, a fresh embryo transfer will be performed immediately within 3 to 5 days whereas in the case of frozen embryo transfer (FET) the process can take place years after a woman's egg retrieval and fertilization with sperm.

What is the cost of IVF treatment?

IVF is a complex procedure and comparatively expensive than Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), there are multiple factors that influence your IVF charge so to be certain, you will need to consult your medical doctor for the specifics of what's included in every treatment cycle as well as any additional charges on drug treatments, surgical procedures and in case they have any installment alternatives and other schemes to ease the monetary burden.
