Biography

Dr. Gyanendra Man Singh Karki is a cherished leader in Nepalese medicine, affectionately recognized as the Father of Laparoscopic Gynae-Surgery in Nepal. With over thirty years of dedicated service to medicine, education, and innovation, Dr. Karki's journey is marked by profound contributions to surgical practices, the establishment of important healthcare institutions, and his heartfelt commitment to enhancing fertility care across Nepal.


He began this remarkable journey by earning his MD from First Pavlov State Medical University, followed by a Master’s degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His specialization in Gynecologic Oncology from St. Petersburg State Medical Academy further enriched his skill set. Dr. Karki honed his surgical expertise with a Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery from Germany and later completed a Ph.D. in Medicine from Kyrgyz State Medical Academy. His selection as a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), USA, reflects his unwavering dedication to his field.


As the first gynecologic laparoscopic surgeon and oncologist in Nepal, Dr. Karki has thoughtfully conducted over 50,000 surgeries, each one a testament to his skill and the care he extends to his patients. He has introduced pioneering procedures, including laparoscopic radical hysterectomy and innovative urogynecological techniques, working tirelessly to set new standards in minimally invasive surgery and gynecological oncology throughout South Asia.


Beyond his surgical accomplishments, Dr. Karki’s passion for teaching and entrepreneurship shines brightly. He is the founding chairman of Birat Medical College, a respected institution that nurtures future healthcare professionals, and the founder of Birat IVF Center—the first of its kind outside the capital—where he serves as Chairman and Chief Consultant in Laparoscopic Gynecology. His leadership in establishing Birat Nursing Home, Birat Health Campus, and Birat Shree Media (BFM 91.2) reflects his deep commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to communities across Nepal.


Dr. Karki's impact extends to the academic realm as well, having presented over 20 scientific papers at international conferences and chaired numerous national workshops, including Nepal's first live laparoscopic gynecology training programs. His insightful research on laparoscopic vault closure, anemia in reproductive-age women, and fertility-enhancing procedures has been recognized both nationally and internationally.


Throughout his career, Dr. Karki has been honored with the NESOG Award for his exceptional contributions to women’s health, reproductive surgery, and medical education. With his unmatched skills, profound understanding, and genuine passion for equitable healthcare, Dr. Karki continues to shape a brighter future for gynecological and fertility care in Nepal and beyond, always putting the well-being of his patients at the heart of his work.
